Shab e Barat – What is it ?
Shab e Barat, also known as Mid-Sha’Ban, Bara’at Night, Nisfy Sya’ban, Nim Sha’ban, Berat Kandili or The Night of Records.
It is seen as the night when people’s fortunes for the next year are decided, and when Allah may choose to forgive sinners – Barat, or Bara’at in Arabic, roughly translates to innocence, deliverance or salvation. Shia Muslims also believe that the date of Shab e Barat marks the birthday of
Shab e Barat is a Muslim celebration of forgiveness which takes place between the 14 and 15 of the eighth month in the Islamic calendar – Sha’Ban and this year it is on 28 March 2021.
Countries that observe this fast include India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Lebanon, Iran, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan. The Salafi Arabs do not celebrate this holiday.
