Who is eligible to get driving license in Dubai?
As per RTA guideline, UAE residents aged 21 years and above are eligible to get a driving license in Dubai. Residents younger than 21 years can apply for a probationary driving license. You can apply for a driving test, six months after you get the first-time learner’s permit.

Dubai driving license renewal cost
The fee for driving license renewal may vary. Applicants older than 21 years are required to pay a Dubai driving license renewal fee of AED 300. Other charges include AED 20 for Knowledge and Innovation fees. Customers younger than 21 years old have to pay AED 100 for license renewal along with AED 20 Knowledge and Innovation fees.
In case there is a delay in renewing a Dubai driving license for less than 10 years, a penalty of AED 10 per month would be applicable. The maximum fine as a result of renewal delay can reach up to AED 500. In case the driving license has expired for more than 10 years, the applicant is required to pass the mandatory road test and only then will the driving license be renewed.

It is only in Dubai that you get the service of renewing your driving license over the phone. You can get in touch with the agents at RTA call center to get your driving license renewed online. Follow these steps –
- Call the RTA Call Centre on 8009090.
- Press * for all services.
- Press 1 for for vehicle licensing, parking, e-services and more.
- Press 2 to plan your journey. You will then be put through to speak to an operator.
The temporary driving license is valid for 5 – 15 working days.

The processing time for driving license renewal is usually 3-5 working days. The validity of the driver’s license is 1 year for applicants below 21 years. Whereas the validity for driver’s license for those aged 21 and above is 10 years for Emirati citizens. The license is valid for 5 years for residents and other GCC citizens.
